Learning about all the different advertising techniques was really interesting and seeing how they work in real life. I really enjoyed learning the different methods of product photography, the photos I got at the end were looked professional and clean. I didn't so much like the up lighting method because it was trickier trying to position the bottle correctly on the projector, although I couldn't use the method for my project anyway because my product was solid. Making my posters I furthered my photoshop skills and got more practice. I wanted to recreate the old typewriter adverts but more modern. While experimenting with my photos I got ideas from the photos themselves or from the old posters I had researched. I liked the poster 1 because its very simple. I was inspired by the simple photo of the typewriter I took and I really wanted to use it. Many of the older posters contained a lot of text which is why I used the words beginning with C down the left side. This is one of my favourite of the posters. Poster 2 was my own take on another advert I had seen. This poster required quite a lot of photoshop skills and it took me a while to work out how to do everything to get the effects I wanted. I would compare this poster to a collage with its different effects and overlaying images, which I think is quite effective as it looks creative and shows you can be creative with the typewriter. I think this poster is most like the older posters I was trying to emulate. The typewriter is called a mercury typewriter, in an attempt to use this I created poster 3. My biggest problem when making this poster was finding a good quality photo of the planet Mercury. In the end I found one that was as good as possible and by putting an effect on it you can't tell that it may have been a bit blurry or pixelated. It also reflects the older advertisement for typewriters as most of that was illustrated and the background looks like an illustration not photographs. Similar to the last poster this one also has a look of a collage as the typewriter itself is a photo while the background isn't. The photos I took on the still life table looked really good and they also looked really modern which went against my aim but I wanted to try make a poster with them none the less which was poster 4. At first I wanted to try recreate this poster but decided I was try some ideas I had thought of first. I wanted to use more than one of the photos in the poster because I thought the colours worked well as a series. Poster 5 was another attempt at something simple. I wanted the red to show through more so using the black and white photo it stands how more. I haven't used a lot of colour here and the older typewriter adverts didn't use much colour, maybe just a small amount of text in colour. I think this is a modern version with the text being made more prominent by using colour. The company name really stands out, similar to a lot of the older adverts where the company name was the largest text and the first thing you see on the page. After seeing coronas Christmas advert with the fox I really wanted top make my own, the use of a mascot or anything similar simply hadn't been seen before and I thought it was a great was to advertise the product. I didnt want to completely copy it so I used a hedgehog instead, another garden animal commonly found in the UK. The use of animals reminds me of the McVities adverts where they used the animals and they used the publics love for cute animals to sell their product. By using a smaller hedgehog I think this has a similar affect. Although I like all my posters and I can link them back to the older adverts I wanted to recreate I don't think they look very professional and I think they could still be improved further. If I were to do this project again I think I would work more on my photoshop skills to make them look more clean and less amateur and I would keep improving them further.
