In this project I really enjoyed the research. Looking at how old tourist posters have changed and how they look artistically. I really liked the style of art they were done in. The different campaigns I looked at for guerrilla advertising were really interesting and smart. Its nice to be able to see examples of guerrilla advertising in Manchester as well and see how it is put to use, like by fly posting. Having not grown up in Manchester I know very little about its history. Looking at big historical buildings and the stories behind them was really interesting and its nice to know a little more about the city. Also getting to visit these places I've never been before. I haven't visited a lot of the tourist attractions around Manchester as I was never really a tourist there. When I went on my shoot I found it really fun trying out different P.O.Vs when photographing the buildings and what looks best. I had a lot of fun looking at the different ways to edit the buildings in poster 1. I learnt the tool in photoshop to put effects on and experimented by trying different tutorials about how to edit photos in photoshop. The most difficult thing when making this poster was finding a composition of the buildings that didnt show where the edge of the photo was and showed enough of the buildings. I wanted to take inspiration from the old tourist posters I researched when making this one. I put the image in a box and the words below it similar to some I found and tried to use styles similar to those in the old posters when editing it. However I don't think I really achieved this. The way its composed like a collage rather than one photo makes it look a little confusing and messy. I think I could have perhaps got a poster more like the ones I looked at by using one image rather than multiple. Although the multiple photos prevented me from achieving the look I was going for I do like the fact that every building is edited in a different way and at first glance you might not notice. I think the bottom photo doesn't fit in very well because all the other buildings are brightly coloured. Poster 2 was very easy to edit as unlike my first and second poster it only had one effect. I did try to fit the title for the poster in the sign for the shop but I found it difficult to get rid of the writing there and to find the same font as the title. Although I failed to do this I did in the end quite like the font I picked and where I placed the title. It stand out against the black background. I think this poster highlights the quirky side of Manchester, The building is on a bit of a slant, I did try to get it straight in the photo but the road itself is on a bit of a gradient and I couldn't get the shop to look straight. I think the fact it appears to be slanted or on a hill only enhances the quirky feel though and the quirky Manchester message. The most complicated poster to edit was poster 3. I followed a tutorial on how to make a photo appear like an old postcard. It had lots of steps but I learned a few new features in photoshop and practiced using some of the techniques I already knew in a different way. I had wanted to find a font the same as the shop signs for the title but I couldn't find one that was the same. The font I found in the end was similar to the lower sign on the shop but isn't exactly the same. Although it was difficult with lots of steps at the end I felt like I had achieved something and that I had edited my poster to look exactly the way I had intended to, which is something I didnt manage to do in poster 1. This in the end is my favourite poster. I think it looks the most professional and I really like the aged effect I have managed to achieve with photoshop. I also made a sticker alongside my posters. For this I wanted to find a use for the photo I took of a wheel that I really liked. In class we had discussed using the negatives to advertise. I have attempted to do this. Although I really like the photo I don't think it advertises Manchester very well as I'm not sure you can make it positive. It would however be a good advert for the trams.
